Eugene RG Calls for Labor Laws to Adapt to “Gig Economy”

We tip our hat to the Eugene Register Guard, whose editors opined that the definition of employer-employee relationships must adapt to accommodate business models in the new “gig economy.”
Readers may recall that Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian issued an advisory opinion that drivers for Uber, which connects passengers with owners of private cars, are employees, not independent contractors, potentially killing an innovative business model.
