A Tip of Our Hat – Issue 131
Today we tip our hat to two of Oregon’s finest kids.
Our first tip goes to Oregon Episcopal School senior Vineet Edupugant, who won the nation’s top high school science award (and $100,000) for developing an ingestible battery that allows doctors to diagnose many conditions affecting internal organs without complex imaging or invasive procedures.
Next we tip to Beaverton 7th grader Anushka Naiknaware, who won a $15,000 Google scholarship for developing a bandage that measures moisture levels with microscopic monitors that let “medical workers ‘see’ the condition of the dressing.”
All our hats should be off to these 2 great kids!
A Tip Of Our Hat – Issue 130
A big tip of our hat goes to Representative Greg Walden, who represents Oregon’s Second Congressional District. Earlier this month Greg’s colleagues elected him Chairman of the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee.
Oregonians are very lucky to have a person of Greg’s integrity and solid political values representing them in D.C.
A Tip Of Our Hat – Issue 129
For the second time in less than three months we tip our hat to Rep. Greg Barreto (R-Cove), who in only his second term has been elected Deputy Leader of the House Republican Caucus.
Greg and wife Chris, who serves as secretary of the Oregon GOP, started and continue to manage Baretto Manufacturing, Inc.
Greg & Chris are two of the truly good people in Oregon politics.
A Tip of Our Hat – Issue 128
Today we spend the whole day tipping our hats to Phil & Penny Knight, who will donate $500 million to the University of Oregon to build the Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact. We should all celebrate that this extraordinarily generous couple are Oregonians!
A Tip of Our Hat – Issue 127
Today we give 2 very big tips of our hat to Oregon Representative (R-Fall Creek) Dr. Cedric Ross Hayden, Board President of Caring Hands Worldwide, who spearheaded a health care clinic at Lane County Event Center providing free medical, dental and optical services to 615 homeless and low income men & women. Total value of services provided? $150,000! Thank you, Cedric!
A Tip Of Our Hat – Issue 126
Here’s a big tip of our hat to Oregon Rep. Greg Barreto (R-Cove), for opposing legislation regulating how businesses schedule their employees (“Predictable Scheduling”).
Greg pointed out to our elected Salem job-killers, “You get minimum wage. You get sick pay. You get other loads on business in Oregon.” Greg thinks that’s more than enough government meddling in business. We agree. Keep it up, Greg!
Tip of Our Hat – Issue 125
Rarely do we tip our hat to government. But today we tip to the Oregon License Directory, which gives businesses a one stop online source for finding the licenses and permits they need to operate in Oregon.
For their good work they’re one of six finalists for the National Association of State Chief Information Officers’ award in the category of digital government.
A Tip Of Our Hat – Issue 124
We think raising the salary roof for workers exempt from overtime pay from $24,660 to $47,476 is a lousy idea. That’s because whenever the Feds tell business people how to manage their work force it inevitably ends up costing jobs.
However, today we tip our hat to “Progressive” Oregon Congressman Kurt Schrader. We’re pretty sure Kurt would make everyone eligible for overtime pay. But for joining with other Democrats to slow down the implementation of this moronic idea we tip our hat to him.

Today we tip our hat to Oregon Representative Vic Gilliam (R-Silverton), whom the Oregon Business Association has honored as its Statesman of the Year.
In a legislature not known for its business friendliness, Vic stands out as one of the real good guys. Keep it up, Vic!
